Orchids are known for their delicate beauty and exotic character. Evolving through an intricate and interesting history, the meanings of orchids include love, beauty, luxury, and strength. Orchids can impart a wide variety of messages, but historically the meanings of orchids have included wealth, love, and beauty. To the ancient Greeks, orchids suggested virility, and after the rise in popularity of orchid collections in Victorian England, the meaning of orchids moved towards being symbolic of luxury. Orchids have also been believed to carry various healing and protective properties, allowing them to ward off disease. The Aztecs were said to drink a mixture of the vanilla orchid and chocolate to give them power and strength, and the Chinese believe orchids can help cure lung illnesses and coughs.

Today, the meanings of orchids are generally regarded as a symbolic of rare and delicate beauty. Given the history of the orchid it is a great wedding choice in silk or fresh flowers.

Orchid are beautiful all on their own or great in a mixed bouquet with callas. Orchids also make the perfect wrist corsage because of their size and elegance.

The cascading bouquet was originally referred to as shower bouquets. Also known as a teardrop bouquet or trail bouquet. These replaced the fashion of posies around the time of 1910. This style became exaggerated by 1920, with much larger bouquets. The Cascading bouquet, which is the most formal and most traditional of bouquets, is designed to spill gracefully over the bride's hands as it flows downward for a sophisticated and stylized look, many flowers can be used in this style. The bouquet is roundish at the top but pointy at the bottom. The traditional shower bouquet is known as the large multi-trail bouquet, subsequently renamed the princess in honour of the late Princess Diana and her impressive bridal bouquet. The modern smaller version is called the teardrop bouquet or trail bouquet.

The cascading bouquet, has been popular in the 1980's as well recent years it's popularity has increased both in fresh or silk flowers. This cascading bouquet I recently finished for a bride in Australia. Bouquet was made with silk real touch flowers.

The floral pomander ball is also known as the kissing ball. This lovely flower ball can be used as a wedding table centerpiece or simply suspended from a loop of decorative ribbon. The ball of flowers can either be held as a bouquet or used as wedding pew decorations for the ceremony - and at the wedding reception too.

Adult attendants in the bridal party can carry these lovely bouquets too, but young attendants such as flower girls and junior bridesmaids most often carry them as they are so practical and easy to hold. They can be decorated and adorned with just about anything. Some of my favourite embellishments are pearls and gem stone crystals.

How to preserve your bouquet

There are a few methods commonly used to preserve and enjoy your bouquet for years to come. Dryng or drying agents.

You can use drying agents such as sand, silica gel or borax to preserve your own bouquet at home. The process involves covering each flower completely with the chosen substance to draw out moisture.
Press the flowers from your bouquet at home. Then frame your own pressed arrangement. Or use them in your scrapbook.
Create your own dried flower bouquet. This is perhaps the simplest preservation method to accomplish at home. Take the bouquet apart and hang the individual flowers to dry. Reassemble the bouquet. Take care with the resulting brittle petals and stems.
Another super easy method to drying your bouquet is to simply tie the stems and hang it upside down for at least a month for complete drying process. If you bouquet has roses inn it be sure to start drying process before the petals drop or their heads hang. If you wait to long the flowers will simply fall apart.

Have fun preserving your bouquet, It will be worth it a beautiful keepsake :)

You have chosen your flower girl, picked out her little dress, her fancy shoes, now what? Oh! to accessorize. What about a basket and pretty hair wreath. The basket and wreath will be featured in wedding photos, on the walk down the aisle and treasured by the little girl. A simple little wicker basket floral arrangement can be designed in many ways unique to your wedding. Flower girl baskets can be done in fresh or silk. I usually recommend silk, then your flower girl can enjoy it without worry and it is such a precious keepsake for her for years to come. The basket can have flowers that match the bride's bouquet. It can also hold flowers in colors that match all the bridesmaids bouquets. Ribbons can be interwoven around the handle for an elegant touch, or simple streamers of ribbons from the baskets handle. You can butterflies or small sparkling gems to the petals or the centers of tiny silk flowers.

This is a custom order I finished this week for a Bride in Alaska.The girls will be wearing ivory dresses. We chose ivory, red and pink flowers match the Bride Bouquet, lots of gems daisy Crystal flowers pearl sprays and pearls throughout wreaths and baskets to match.

She will look so adorable wearing a flower girl wreath and carrying a matching basket.

When buying or designing your silk or fresh wedding centerpieces, you need to think carefully about the design of them. The most successful artificial centrepieces are those with a minimal but stunning flower design.
For instance here you can use a large goldfish bowl with twisted silk orchids and 'chinese lanterns'. This would look stunning for a Fall wedding theme. Preserving your bouquet

There are a few methods commonly used to preserve and enjoy your bouquet for years to come. Dryng or drying agents.

You can use drying agents such as sand, silica gel or borax to preserve your own bouquet at home. The process involves covering each flower completely with the chosen substance to draw out moisture.
Press the flowers from your bouquet at home. Then frame your own pressed arrangement. Or use them in your scrapbook.
Create your own dried flower bouquet. This is perhaps the simplest preservation method to accomplish at home. Take the bouquet apart and hang the individual flowers to dry. Reassemble the bouquet. Take care with the resulting brittle petals and stems.
Another super easy method to drying your bouquet is to simply tie the stems and hang it upside down for at least a month for complete drying process. If you bouquet has roses inn it be sure to start drying process before the petals drop or their heads hang. If you wait to long the flowers will simply fall apart.
